Introduction:-

Retro and Pandy, two unlikely renegades, awaken naked on Earth with no recollection of their past, but with superior physical abilities. After embarking on a brief but devastating crime spree for food, clothing and transportation in downtown Tokyo, they are captured by authorities and sent to the infamous prison called Dead Leaves, on the half-destroyed Moon.

Once incarcerated, Retro and Pandy are subjected to the activities taking place inside the prison facility, such as forced labor, straitjackets and mandatory defecation. During one such time, Retro meets Chinko, an inmate with a drill for a penis. 666 and 777, the super-powered prison guards, demonstrate their power when 777 flicks an inmate in the face, killing him along with everybody else behind him.

Plot/Summary :-

Pandy and Retro awaken naked on Earth with no recollection of their past. They embark on a devastating crime spree in search of food, clothing and transportation, but are captured by authorities and sent to the infamous lunar penitentiary named Dead Leaves. While incarcerated, they quickly discover that Dead Leaves is also a top-secret cloning facility, occupied by villainous guards and deformed genetic experiments. Ultra-manic chaos and hyper-violent bedlam ensue as they organize a prison break with the aid of their fellow mutant inmates.

Story :-

Dead Leaves is the kind of show that would probably blow your mind if you watched it stoned or drunk. It is so completely insane that it almost doesn’t make any sense if you’re sober. The first thing I am reminded of while watching this was another wild and crazy series, Furi Kuri. By the end of that show I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. That’s not the case with Dead Leaves, it was a great ride that I recommend strongly.

The story for Dead Leaves is as nutty as you might expect. A couple find themselves naked and without memories and turn to a crime spree in which they are eventually caught and sent the moon's prison called Dead Leaves for life. They soon manage to free themselves and the other prisoners and find themselves in a life or death struggle to escape, and to recover their own memories that seem to be related with the prison. It’s not incredibly deep but the action is furious and nonstop. Don’t blink or let your attention wander because you’re bound to miss something and become confused.

A word of warning for anyone who is going to watch this. This one is not for the small kids. The humor is perverse, highly sexual, graphic and gory. The body count and level of death is shockingly high. I have railed against violent humor before in the past but Dead Leaves is one in which this actually works. Dismemberment has never been so much fun or humorous.

Characters are a real strong point as this movie features some of the most enjoyable I have seen to date. The two protagonists are Pandy and Retro. They are both drawn in a very bizarre style like everything else in the show. The first thing that will probably strike you is why does Retro have a TV for a head? There is good chemistry between the pair and I can’t see anyone not liking these two from the start. There is a plethora of supporting characters, many of them are quite hilarious. Most noticeably "Dick Drill" and the Doctor. I’m not sure if it’s even possible for me to describe these two to someone who hasn’t seen this anime. Just watch it, if you don’t think they are hilarious then check your pulse because you’re dead.

Dead Leaves revolves around a dystopian world where the two protagonists, Pandy and Retro find themselves naked and with no recollection of their past and having extraordinary physical abilities. After a crime chase, they are captured and sent to a famous space prison called Dead Leaves, situated on a half destroyed moon. After planning a prison break, the two discover the secret activities being executed behind the prison. Now Pandy and Retro must escape and destroy Dead Leaves to save themselves and all the prisoners being captured.

First of all, Dead Leaves is in fact not an anime “series”, but instead a one episode 52 minute “movie” (I guess in this case I should call it a short movie). So it is not serialised; there is one episode and one episode only. But that doesn’t mean it’s not good; in fact this is probably one of the most exciting and fast-paced 52 minute animation you’ll most likely ever see.

Second of all, the movie stars many notable voice actors and personnel; the series is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, who is most notable for directing the Gurren Lagann series. Some notable voice actors include Kappei Yamaguchi who voices Retro (and is also known as the voices of Ussop from One Piece and Saotome Ranma from Ranma ½) and Nobuo Tomita who voices Chinko (and is also known as the voices of  Kamille Bidan from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Clovis from Code Geass). The movie is animated by Production IG.

Conclusion :-

If you loved your fast paced action that is a little absurd (in fact, quite absurd) with a little black comedy, then you’ll absolutely love this crazy symphony of madness. I am a little disappointed as they didn’t turn this into a proper anime series with 12-13 episodes, but what can I do. Anyways, if you haven’t seen this yet then check it out. It’s worth the 52 minutes, trust me.

Recommendation :-

Of course -,  Its an nice anime.

My rcommendation is 7/10.

I strongly recommend it for Sci-Fi lover.
