Introduction:-
Clannad is the anime adaptation of the visual novel developed by KEY for Windows PCs in 2004, which was later ported to PlayStation consoles and the Xbox 360. The game was the best-selling PC game in 2004 and charted in national top 50 rankings several more times afterwards. Clannad has been adapted into four manga adaptations, an animated film, two anime series, two OVAs, comic anthologies, light novels and art books. The anime series and OVAs were licensed in North America by Sentai Filmworks in 2009. The first season of the animated series received positive to mixed reviews, while the second season Clannad After Story received wide critical acclaim.
Plot/Summary :-
Tomoya Okazaki is a delinquent who finds life dull and believes he'll never amount to anything. Along with his friend Sunohara, he skips school and plans to waste his high school days away.
One day while walking to school, Tomoya passes a young girl muttering quietly to herself. Without warning she exclaims "Anpan!" (a popular Japanese food) which catches Tomoya's attention. He soon discovers the girl's name is Nagisa Furukawa and that she exclaims things she likes in order to motivate herself. Nagisa claims they are now friends, but Tomoya walks away passing the encounter off as nothing.
Quotes :-
“A true masterpiece. That is all I can say.”
“The series is known for its brilliant execution of comedy, drama and romance.”
Story :-
Clannad revolves around Okazaki Tomoya, a third year high school student who hates his life. After his mother died at a young age and his father turning into an alcoholic, he spends his wasting days as a delinquent. One day, on his way to school, late as usual, he meets a girl called Furukawa Nagisa. For some reason, Tomoya draws closer to Nagisa as they meet every morning on the road to school and naturally start to converse. He is told that Nagisa is one year older than Tomoya, and repeated third year for being sick most of last year. Her wish is to bring back the now disbanded drama club, and Tomoya (although neglecting her at first) slowly starts to help her. Then, Tomoya’s fellow classmates begin to help Nagisa on her dreams of playing a stage show as the drama club. Meanwhile, Tomoya is feeling neglected by his own family member, Nagisa repays him by introducing him to her family members. As Nagisa starts to feel wanted at a social level, Tomoya starts to feel wanted at a family level, and the two slowly start to become drawn together.
I'd like to start this review, if I may, going straight to the point; the main reason why some people avoid Clannad.
"It's too cute."
Yes man, it is. I agree with you. There were times I thought to myself "this would never happen in the real world" but what is the problem? Appreciating these beautiful moments won't bruise you. "You'll cry" is also a sentence often read in reviews. I admit, I wrote it on my After Story review, but it's not mandatory! Nobody is obligated to cry or feel sad, it's just that the anime is so strong that it makes a lot of people cry. Even if you're not really into drama or romances, give it a try. If you dislike then drop the 2nd season, but complete this one! It's one in a lifetime experience, I dare to say you'll enjoy at least half of the show.
The Clannad collection is undoubtedly a well known anime. Even though, the After Story receive much more attention than the first season. Mostly because it's more "touching" than its predecessor, but it wouldn't be the same and wouldn't even exist without this prequel. It's the entire set that makes Clannad the masterpiece it is.
Some people end up watching After Story before the first series. The storyline is set in a way it's not necessary watch the first season to understand what is going on, the characters are introduced again and it's a different theme. However, I cannot guarantee that you will enjoy the show as much as someone who watched the 1st season before.
Clannad is something I would recommend even to a friend who have never watched any kind of anime. There is no need to have a "anime background" in order to enjoy it, it's something everyone, without exceptions, can watch. Despite the genre, age, tastes... There is no gore, violence, profanity, battles... it's just the classical slice-of-life humor mixed with a lovely romance, that proves how strong some stories can be by themselves without any kind of "attractive" or fan-service.
Do you know anyone who's a little depressed and is now reading some kind of self-help book trying to see the "beauty of life"? Recommend to him/her this anime.
The first season ran for 23 episodes and ran during the Fall 2007 and Winter 2008 Anime Season (October 2007 – March 2008), and the second season, Clannad After Story ran for 24 episodes during Fall 2008 and Winter 2009 Anime Season (October 2008 – March 2009). The series is based off a visual novel (game) written and created by Key Studios. The series is animated by Kyoto Animation, who are best known for creating such highly acclaimed series as The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, Lucky Star and Air.
The series contains some very talented voice actors and actresses that really make this series come to life such as Nakamura Yuuichi who voices Okazaki Tomoya (and is also known as the voices of Kousaka Kyousuke from Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai and Gray Fullbuster from Fairy Tail), Nakahara Mai who voices Furukawa Nagisa (and is also known as the voices of Me from Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita and Juvia Lockser from Fairy Tail) and a whole bunch of talented members including Hirohashi Ryou, Notou Mamiko and Kuwashima Houko among others.
Conclusion :-
Another factor that makes Clannad a favourite for many is the execution of the series. While the dramatic parts are executed with emotional animations and background music (FYI, I truly believe the Clannad OST is the greatest of any series I have seen and I highly recommend it), while it is being balanced with some of cutest and funniest comedy sections you will ever see. The character development is interesting and well put together; using almost all the characters along the way to lead to a truly emotional ending that will never be erased from your memory. For those who have not watched this series, I beg of you. Please watch it! I will give you money if you didn’t like this series (and I’m pretty confident when I say that). There is a reason why this is my favourite series and why this anime is truly a modern masterpiece.
Recommendation :-
Of course -, Its an Awosome anime.
My rcommendation is 10./10.
I strongly recommend it for Romance lover.
